Frozen roses
In spite of all the frost and snow we got in January, the sun was rather strong at times. Strong enough at least to melt quite a lot of the snow on our roof.
It seems the segments of our roof gutter don’t fit that tightly just above the roses. Thus, quite a lot of melt water dripped onto the roses, immediately freezing again in the cold air.
Here’s some impressions.
Without words.

Beautiful. Have you ever seen frozen fog? That’s the only way I can think of to describe it. It blankets everything and you have this silvery crystalized look to the trees and bushes. It’s beautiful. I would have taken a picture the last time it happened, but you have to catch it before it melts and it happened on a workday, so no time. And never mind that I’d have to figure out how to upload it.
Wait, I found some pictures. They don’t do it justice though.

Brrrr, I saw many icicles this winter! Happily, the weather is quite Spring-like now.
Neat pictures though!

Fantastic pictures. You rarely see this here in Ireland.

@ Pandora: Aye, beautiful, yet dangerous, for as beautiful as they are, the real thing (ice rain, not some meltwater dripping from the roof gutter…) can destroy trees.
@ Melantrys: Indeed.
I revised that. That was a bit on the short and boring side, wouldn’t you agree?
@ Frans: See replies to Pan and myself.
@ Lynnette: Hm, frozen fog sounds a lot more poetic than Rauhreif (And to all Germans who might pass through here and feel compelled to point out my spelling error: That was no error; I just don’t give a flying fuck about the stupid and half-thought-through spelling reform we had and continue spelling stuff the olde way, thank you very much.)
@ David: Spring is playing silly buggers with us here. We had a few lovely days, and now we seem to be back to fall. Blegh.
@JG: You rarely see this here in Ireland.
Seriously? Or maybe you’re not going out enough during the cold season….?
Anyway, welcome.

Hm, weird.

I’m used to that reaction. My girlfriend is German and she finds most things about Ireland amusing/weird!
