After a long abstinence a social message…
Did you give money to a charity helping in Pakistan yet?
No? I think you should, then.
Hardly anyone is, and when I then see the islamophobic mob on a rightwing German blog celebrating this and stating that giving money to their blog owner or Geert Wilders (a Dutch far right politician whom they adore) would be a far better investment, then I get really, really….. I don’t think “angry” is quite the right word…..
If you’re German, here’s a list of respectable charities.
Give a Euro, a Dollar, a Pound.
I gave.
Thank you.

Good call. We have the same odious people here suggesting that Pakistanis are somehow less deserving of help. Well, thankfully we don’t have too many in Ireland but there are loads in Britain. I’ve been reading it on the blogs, and it really sickens me.

No, thanks. No cash for terror and bombs.
September 14th, 2010 at 7:35 pm
Yeah, very “heroic” to let little children die…
…. and heartless ppl like this who can’t differentiate between Taliban and innocent civillians are exactly the reason why I gave more than I could actually afford….

H.E.R.O.,
So, you are saying you don’t trust the US military? They were quite busy ferrying in supplies and evacuting people in Pakistan after the floods.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:41 pm
Probably just making sure there’ll be terrorists to fight tomorrow. (/angry sarcasm)
September 26th, 2010 at 10:43 pm
Lynnette,
Sadly, they’re also busy implementing their “drone policy” which leaves innocent Pakistanis buried in the rubble of their homes.
Imagine the outcry if they were Americans!
All human life is equal but some human life is a lot more equal than others, sadly.

Mel,
Probably just making sure there’ll be terrorists to fight tomorrow. (/angry sarcasm)
Job security, you mean? Shame on you Mel! All those innocent children!
JG,
Sadly, they’re also busy implementing their “drone policy” which leaves innocent Pakistanis buried in the rubble of their homes.
I believe the “drone policy” has been stepped up by the Obama administration since he took office. So perhaps you can blame the lefties in my country for that. Would you prefer B-52’s?
September 29th, 2010 at 8:40 am
My point exactly, Lynnette. H.E.R.O. and likeminded ppl reduce those children to would-be-terrorists in some hazy future. That’s what my sarcasm was directed at.
If the military/government argued like those
rabid islamophobes“sensible” persons would, then western military help would have to have a pathetic reason like that mentioned in my sarcastic remark above.September 29th, 2010 at 11:21 pm
*sigh*
Any military/government worth its salt needs to stand above the human failings exhibited by those who wallow in extreme forms of thinking/reasoning. It’s something the more enlightened founding fathers of my nation were actually able to achieve when they wrote our constitution, despite various factions pulling this way and that.
Some in our government may say that our military helping out in Pakistan is a good public relations opportunity to burnish our image, but it is also the right thing to do. And I know there are many in our military who are very happy to be helping when the need is so great.
I have just finished listening to a C/D given to me by a very sweet lady. Yet it’s a recording that I, for the most part, disagree with. *sigh* So how to gently tell her that it does not mesh with what our founding fathers believed without hurting her feelings? I will just have to fall back on the wording of our First Amendment I guess and try to make her understand that the part that reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” means exactly that. While many were indeed Christians they were far before their time when they understood that America would become a nation of many religions and there should be no religion enshrined as the state religion. I know she means well, but…
You may take ideas from a religious text and incorporate them into your secular laws…thou shalt not steal…for instance. But no religious text, be it the Bible or the Quran, should be enshrined as the law of the land.

1. Obama isn’t on the left. He has continued most of the Bush-era failed policies, which is in no way surprising. It’s what he said he’d do.
2. Yes, I blame both the people who order these attacks and those who carry them out.
Would I prefer B-52s? No, I’d prefer innocent people, including young children, weren’t burried alive in the rubble of their own homes. You seem so casual and uncaring about this. If it was American life we were talking about I suspect you’d be a little more exercised about it though.
As I above, all human life is equal but some human life is a lot more equal than others.

Lynnette me no understand. *sighs*
The only ones my sarcasm was attacking were ppl like H.E.R.O.
Oh, your friend is one of those who wants to make a Christian country of America? I read about those plans. Mixing religion with politics never was a good idea, and it never will be.
Lynnette & JG, no fighting on my blog, or I’ll hit the both of you over the head.
*glares at both*
While I not agree with Lynnette on most political/military stuff, what with me being a tree hugging leftie myself, we do agree on other things and get along.
So if you guys want to discuss war tactics do it in a less aggressive manner.

Mel,
The only ones my sarcasm was attacking were ppl like H.E.R.O.
Okay. Peace.
Oh, your friend is one of those who wants to make a Christian country of America?
America is a Chirstian country. But it is also Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, atheist etc. That is what they don’t understand, and what was so amazing about our founding fathers, is that they did!
Mixing religion with politics never was a good idea, and it never will be.
I wholeheartedly agree.
Lynnette & JG, no fighting on my blog, or I’ll hit the both of you over the head.
lol! Now there’s the Mel we all know and love.
It’s good.
JG,
Mel’s right. We may not always agree with each other on everything, but there are things where we do, such as the separation of religion and state. I also confess to being a bit of a tree hugger as well. lol! But we have managed to get along peacfully. Perhaps like the title to Edward Said’s memoir “Out of Place”, I too am a bit out of place, in that I can agree with some things on both sides of the so called “right” and “left”. I just started that book, btw.
I’ll just copy your comment over to Zeyad’s so that we can continue our biting and scratching in the proper forum.

Mel,
That was my less agressive manner!
